Behind the Mission: Mrs. Rupavathy Kumar - Empowering Communities through Compassion and Action

THE INDIAN JURIST is an initiative of COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION AND RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT INDIA TRUST (CORDI Trust) with an objective to spread legal awareness in India.

At CORDI Trust, we pride ourselves on a unique approach to community development that sets us apart. Unlike traditional organizations that operate from high-rise buildings, our late Founder/Managing Trustee, Mrs. Rupavathy Kumar, took a different path. She immersed herself in the communities she served, spending extended hours with the people to gain insights directly from their experiences.

Mrs. Rupavathy Kumar believed in collaboration and empowerment from within. Rather than imposing ideas or projects, she engaged with the community, encouraging them to propose solutions based on their perspectives. Her commitment was evident as she worked alongside them, identifying resources to fulfill their expectations and turn their aspirations into reality.

This hands-on approach distinguished Mrs. Rupavathy Kumar as an insider, deeply connected to the downtrodden, rather than an outsider or a conventional social worker. CORDI Trust, under her visionary leadership, not only provided immediate relief to women affected by domestic violence but also focused on unlocking their inherent physical, mental, emotional and economic capabilities.

The trust redirected these resources, enabling the victims to embark on a journey of self-sustenance in various aspects of life. Over time, CORDI Trust recognized Women’s Empowerment as a central objective and committed itself to activities that uplift and empower women in the pursuit of a better future.
